Some of you might know that I live in Belgium. Born & raised in Antwerp. Although my dad loves to prepare French meals, he did learn me how to make some classic Belgian dishes. One of my favorites is mashed with sausages and a mustard sauce. This sauce is pretty healthy, not too heavy on cream. You could always use Alpro soya cream or just use the gravy from the meat.
This is what I prepared for our Belgetarian Dinner. In the beginning of 2015 Carrefour asked me if I wanted to host a dinner party for 5 strangers. Although I was super enthousiastic, I still felt it would be more fun if I teamed up with an other blogger. That’s why I contacted Patricia from No Glitter No Glory. She invited us in her beautiful home and was a great host. You can read how she decorated her table on her blog. It was the cherry on top of the cake, our dinner party cake.
The Belgitarian campaign is to promote local products. You can understand why I was so exciting. I really try to look at the origin of my ingredients, every little bit helps no? Our local cuisine is really easy to make and yummy! Everything you need for a great evening.
We invited 4 strangers to dine with us. Via a Facebook Contest we choose Ilja, Liesbeth, Jeroen & Laura. Ilja is a photographer, currently focusing more on fashion and doing a great job with Ruth for her outfit posts. Liesbeth has a great webshop for those who love interior design and cute gifts. You always have a surprise at the table, this time it was Jeroen. He is a taxidermist and opening his own shop very soon, for now you can explore his work on his website. Last but not least, Laura who made us all laugh. I was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere, I was a bit scared it would end up being a table full of awkward penguins but it was actually a very lovely evening full of interesting talks. So what do you need to prepare the main dish for 6 people?
for the mashed:
- around 15 to 20 potatoes
- 1 zucchini
- 4 big carrots
- 1 small broccoli
- one onion
- salt & pepper
- a teaspoon of muscat nut to season the mashed
- a tablespoon of butter to make the mashed smooth before adding the veggies
for the sausages and mustard sauce
- Chipolata sausages for 6 people
- 4 tablespoons of grain mustard
- 1 tablespoon of hot vegetable stock
- 1dl water
- 1dl cream
