Bruges, Visit, 2014-12-01

We all recognise this moment – we absolutely and desperately need a glass of wine. To de-stress after work, to accompany a long-overdue chat with a good friend, to prepare for a night out, to have a last drink after dinner. Or just because you want to sip a delightfully refreshing bubbly, a fruity white wine or an extraordinary glass of liquid red gold. What makes it even better is when a good glass is accompanied by a platter of artisanal cheeses, hand-crafted cold cuts, some salami and pickles or the unrepeatable sensation of a oven-grilled Mont d’Or cheese. All of this in a basic but warm environment, enhanced by some eye-catching designer details. But where to go?

Well, good news for those of you who live in or are about to visit the beautiful and historical city of Bruges ! A new wine bar has opened its doors only a couple of months ago, called Bar Jus. On a side street of one of the city’s central roads, this tiny and most adorable place can host up to 16 wine-lovers inside and a couple of them outside too – don’t worry, warm blankets are provided to cuddle up after sunset. The owner, who has a serious case of wine passion, offers a superb list of wines from all over the world. Portuguese wines get a special feature here, but also other European and South-American wine countries are widely represented. If you’re up for something stronger, they also offer a selection of excellent Vermouths, Madeiras and G&Ts. The decoration is minimal, using lots of wooden accents and soft, yellow light. This way, however, the designer details catch your attention even more when looking around with a satisfied smile on your face after having sipped from that glass of Barbera d’Asti or a natural Pinot Noir.

It’s truly a nice place to hang out for as long as you wish – no pressure, only friendly service with a smile. A break from shopping or chocolate snacking, or a rest for your feet after admiring the city’s monuments. You’ll see: you can’t just pass by here without going in !
