Merhaba! Due to my Erasmus studies I had the opportunity to explore the beautiful city of Istanbul. I immediately fell in love with this city because there is so much to explore. A city with more than 18 million citizens. For my first post on the Why Not Monday website I start with one of the best meat restaurants here. Adana Ocakbaşı is a small, authentic Turkish barbecue restaurant. And you see it when you enter: you have the chef who sits in the middle of the restaurant and prepares all kinds of meat.

We went there for my friends birthday party, whom I met here. We had such a great meal. First we started with all kinds of mezze (small appetizers). In this restaurant you don’t order your own meal, you go to the barbecue and you say what you want and they put everything in the middle of the table and you take what you like. We ate adana kebab, chicken shish kebab, lamb-chunks, lamb-chops and lamb shish kebab which were all Turkish specialties. Especially try the lamb if you get the chance because it is simply amazing!

The people are very friendly and there is one waiter who speaks a little English. It’s located close to Osmanbey which is one stop from Taksim Square. Taksim is the heart of Istanbul. And there is one last thing I have to say about this restaurant: If you want to go there, make a reservation at least 3 days in advance because it is always full.

İstanbul’u seviyorum! (I love Istanbul)
