My summer has been dominated by long training runs in preparation for the marathon I will be running this fall. And because of that NYC summer heat that would mean getting up at 6am. But there is nothing better than having your whole Saturday or Sunday to relax after getting those training miles in and how better to start than with brunch (and a nap).
One of my favorite places this summer for brunch, and especially after running, has been Stone Park Cafe in Park Slope, Brooklyn. I first came here in May after running the Brooklyn half marathon and it kinda became a thing after that.
The menu is varied and provides that perfect food to fuel you for the rest of the day. Eggs, spicy bloody mary’s, pancakes, sandwishes or salads; no matter what you’re in the mood for, you’ll be satisfied. Seasonality and freshness is what the entire menu revolves around and so it gets updated regularly. It’s like having a good home cooked meal, except you don’t have to do anything yourself. I’m always so comfortable at this place. Even though I’ve never been for dinner, the dinner menu makes me want to. Fresh pasta, good meats and lots of appetizers.
It’s located in Park Slope, one of my favorite neighborhoods in Brooklyn. The whole area has a very relaxed and homey feeling. 5th avenue is filled with great places to eat and drink and is full of lovely small boutiques to stroll through after brunch. The interior is nothing special but as I already mentioned, the atmosphere is cozy comfortable. They do have a terrace so it’s great to sit outside in the summer and soak up some sun. In the back, the large windows open completely making for the summer to be right inside.
For those perfect relaxed summer days that are filled with friends, good food, sunshine and happiness: this is the place. I’ll probably say the same in the winter though.
